The Cottage Garden

This is a family business and is run on a day-to-day basis by Mary and son, Richard. Les and daughter, Juliet helps out when able. There has been a nursery at our Boxted location since 1919 and, at least for the last 40 years it has specialised in bedding plants. We continued the bedding plant tradition when we took over the nursery in March 1999 but we have also begun to indulge our passions.Our catalogue saw the launch of two of our collections; FUCHSIAS and PHYGELIUS. The fuchsia range, with over 400 cultivars species, incorporates many old favourites along with newer varieties. We are particularly keen to continue to enlarge our species section.
The shop itself is aesthetically pleasing and an enjoyable browse. It boasts around 600 wines; wines with wide appeal, ranging from crowd-pleaser party-wine, to the wine for the connoisseur. Its emphasis and greatest strength, however, is wines for drinking immediately or for short-term cellaring (up to 5 years to full maturity), from £5 to £15 per bottle. The range of clarets on offer is particularly exciting and ever changing. Prices are keen, offering value for money. Discounts are given on cases collected from The Wine Centre, from 5% (standard) to 20% (wines on promotion).
