Local Walks
Two footpath walks from Boxted Church to West and South
Leave the Church via Church Lane gate. Turn left, cross Church Road towards Pond House. Follow footpath past the Lake, up hill, with hedge on left continue forward. Where the path widens pass through the Kissing gate, cross field, over stile, and follow path through a walnut orchard to Lake.
1. For short walk, cross bridge over Lake and follow path up the hill. At the field turn right, then left after a few yards. Cross Church Road into the lane towards Boxted Hall. At Boxted Hall Bungalow turn right at pampas grass clumps along 'Piggy Path' and return to the Church.
2. For a longer walk, turn left at the Lake and follow the path and stream to the narrow plank over the stream, cross, keeping the small brook on the left and follow path to Wet Lane. Turn left. Follow the road to Green Lane. Turn right along the lane to sign (on right) to Carter's Farm Vineyard. Turn right and follow the track past the vineyard (call in if you fancy a bottle!) to Church Road. Turn right. At left junction ( with grass island) turn left. After a short distance turn right and follow the farm track which circumnavigates Boxted Hall (various farm buildings on the left) to Boxted Hall Bungalow, Turn left at pampas grass clumps and return to the Church along the Piggy Path.

Three footpath walks from Boxted Church to the East.
From the Church gates turn left into Church Street following the road past Cheshunts. As the road goes downhill turn right by Chase Cottage. Follow the track past the lake then up the hill through the wood. Turn right through Shrubs just before Rivers Hall. Pass the barn on the left. By the wooden pavilion turn right over the stile then diagonal right down the meadow. At the bottom either -
1. turn right and go up the hill through the meadow, cross the stream, over the stile, through the wood to the road and turn left back to the Church.
2. or, turn left to the road. Straight on past turning, at footpath sign turn right up the hill. At the top turn right and make for the gap in the bank. At the road turn left and return to the Church.
3. or, for a longer walk, at the wooden pavilion go straight, at the filed turn left and follow the edge of the field to the footpath sign. Turn right and go across the field, trees on the right. to the road. At Dedham Road turn right to Cross roads. Turn right down Carter's Hill to the footpath sign. Walk up the hill. Turn right to the gap in the bank. At the road turn left and return to the Church.

A footpath walk around Boxted Heath
Footpath Walk from the King George Vth Playing Field Car Park (One long or Long cut short!)
Leaving the playing field car park, turn left down Cage lane and continue along the lane until a footpath sign on the right hand side; follow the path across fields, passing Plains Farm, the reservoir and telegraph poles towards a field fence; turn left and walk to the road. Cross road, take footpath between Royal British Legion Hut and Pond Cottage; follow the path keeping the hedge on your left; pass the Kissing Gate; go down the grass hill, Pond House lake is clearly visible to the left; cross the stream; go up the hill along Pond House driveway to the road; turn right and follow the road to the footpath sign opposite Round Hill House; turn along the footpath and follow down the hill to the road; turn left (ignore the turning up Parsonage Hill) and follow the road to the footpath at the bottom of Cook's Hill. On the footpath, turn left at the stile into low-lying meadow; walk through the meadow, over the bridge, up the hill, over another stile into a small wood. At the road turn right. Passing Cheshunts, (a medieval dwelling extended in the Tudor period and again in the 18th and 19th centuries) turn right at the footpath sign by Chase Cottage. Follow this broad track passing the lake and up the hill. At the top follow the footpath sign right (opposite Rivers Hall) round the barns through the farmyard to the field; turn left round the edge of the field to footpath signs. Here it is possible to turn right and return to the Car Park through the village (short walk!).
For a longer walk - turn left along the road to Sky Hall Hill. At the footpath sign on right hand side, leave the road, walk across the field towards Plumb's Farm. Before the footpath joins Plumb's Farm driveway, turn right across the field towards the road. Turn left at the road, walk for about 50 yards then right across the fields with the hedge on the right. At small copse turn right; walk round the copse to a track leading to farm buildings; cross the farmyard and leave in bottom right hand corner over stile, down hill, passing duck pond, cross the stream, up the hill to a ploughed field. Turn right, follow the field to the road. Turn left along the road to Hundred Lane on right - unsuitable for motors - walk along the Lane, turn right at T-junction and follow Cage Lane back to Car Park.
